As the days grow shorter and darker, our focus this month is on the element of Fire. In a series of hands-on practices, we will explore the ways in which Fire ignites, illuminates, and transforms what it touches, and how we can engage with that spirit in our own lives. We will look into the science of fire ecology, the mythology around ceremonial burning, and ancient practices of tending flames and hearth. We will end with a meditative practice called candle-gazing, intended to help us find illumination within darkness.
Join singer-songwriter and energy healer Johanna Warren (passing through Atlanta on a national Plant Medicine Tour) for a night of exploring the human voice as a magical tool that can be used for healing, manifesting, and communing with the cosmos. Through group toning exercises and gentle guided ritual, we will be connecting with and honoring the Earth, our bodies and our deepest selves.
When asked what motivates her to make music, Johanna Warren responds immediately: “Music is vibration; it's a direct way to affect matter. A song is a way to journey into places of discord and then resolve back into harmony.” The Portland songwriter/multi-instrumentalist constructs complex, gossamer folk compositions that draw from the richness of the human experience and her own unique flavor of mysticism. Her new album, Gemini II, has received praise from the New York Times, Pitchfork and NPR. Johanna is also the founder of Spirit House Records, a radically artist-friendly label for witches, healers and free spirits.
